Using Aids to make learning Interesting
A teacher's main concern is to cotribute whole heartedly to
the teaching learning process. Learning however, is a complex process and
it is the teacher's job to make learning interesting. There are lots
associated with learning , like knowledge, the different skills,
classroom management, behaviour management and last but not the least,
the use of teaching aids. It is important to note that motivation plays
an important role in the learning process. In order to motivate students,
especially the Young Learners, the teacher should be able to make the
class interesting by making use of interactive materials and teaching
aids. During the Pre and Primary Teacher Training Course, the focus is on
the use of a number of teaching aids in order to make learning
interesting and to hold on to the attention span of the learners.
Teaching aids have a tremendous effect in motivating the learner if used
in the correct manner. It is important for the teacher to be trained in
handling the aids e specially at the Montessori and the Pre Primary
levels. Teaching aids can be instrumental in holding on to the short
attention span and ignite interest in the young learner, thereby
expediting the learning process. The aids can be used to share new ideas
and inculcate interest as the children get an opportunity to do things on
their own rather than be passive listeners and indulge in rote learning.
Teaching aids can be categorized as Audio, Visual, TPR, realia and
interactive materials. Research shows that using the right aid to teach
the right subject matter improves the quality of teaching as it reduces
the teacher's talk time and stimulates interest. The Montessori Teaching
Course and The Pre and Primary Teacher Training Course qualifies the
trainee teachers with first hand practical knowledge of teaching
apparatus which can be categorized under EPL( experience in practical
life ),Sensorial, Mathematics and language learning equipments.
