Montessori Approach And Misconceptions Related To It

Montessori classrooms are one of the most effective learning environments in early childhood education. But, what we feel is that the most important material in a Montessori environment is the student herself/himself. It must be kept in mind that a child imitates his/her parents and thus parents must be careful while expressing themselves in front of their children.


We indeed encourage the independence of the children to concentrate, problem-solve, get creative, and fulfill their interests. Well, that does not mean in the Montessori concept a child does all the tasks alone. This approach gives a lot of space to children but guides them as well to do a task perfectly.

For example, once a kid is eating his/her mother sits next to him/her and helps the kid to identify the things present in the dish. Besides, the mother asks him/her where should the dish be kept once he/she is done with the eating. This will teach the kid to keep dishes in place after finishing eating.


The Montessori approach never supports forcing a child to do a task against his/her wish. Parents never force kids to perform tasks like washing the dish or cleaning floors. Children always learn what they see their parents are doing and that is why they often imitate their parents. Well, parents often invite kids to join them while doing household chores because parents feel that learning homely stuff is of utter importance but it is not true that kids are forced to do such works.


Children do not share their playing stuff in Montessori and they are also not forced to play with others. Rather, teachers ask the child to decide whether to play alone or with others.
